AkaTheMacDaddy Reports: SDK The Noob Way – Mac OSX Style!”

With all of the new devices coming out all of the time AkaTheMacDaddy got to thinking of way back in the day when I was a noob and first started learning about all of this Technological Mumbo Jumbo!” I was lost and confused about everything!”  I hated being a Noob and still do!”

Eventually as it always happens with time, I became Windows Certified, then a few years after that I became an Apple Certified Genius nicknamed AkaTheMacDaddy.

I want everyone to take a moment to think back. Especially the Devs, Themers, Modders, Hackers and even…“The Know It All Guys!” (you guys know who you are and we don’t have to tell you because you already know haha!”)

I want you to think back to when you were Noobs yourselves searching through the many wonderful forums that have been provided for us by some amazing people willing to share their time and talents.

Just remember back to when you were searching for any piece of knowledge that could help you become proficient at what you were into or to help find out if you might have accidentally bricked something!” I want you to remember how much you hated being a Noob and the next time you see a post on a forum asking for help! Don’t be a Jerk or Shy away from helping and sharing the knowledge that you have acquired throughout your many years of Noobness.

I have decided to share my Time and “Talents Of The Mac” with everyone. I searched High and Low for the best and easiest guide for setting up ADB and Fastboot on Mac OSX. I had almost given up and was about to write my own dang guide!”  When long and behold the guys over at AndroidTricks.Net stepped up to share their time and talents with The Android Community!”  This in AkaTheMacDaddy’s opinion (I mean after all I am a Certified Genius!”) the easiest step-by-step Noobs Guide to Setup ADB and Fastboot with Android SDK on Mac OSX – Because some of us still use Macs and Windows has tons of guides on setting up ADB and Fastboot.

Okay so let’s not waste anymore time getting started shall we?”   This tutorial will help you setup ADB and Fastboot so you can start pushing applications and data via ADB or flashing radios, .img files and HBOOT’s via Fastboot.

Download and extract Android SDK from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html to your desktop.

(Browse to Tools and double click “android”. It will open up a terminal window and load the SDK)

(Install packages)

Here go to “Available Packages” and select what you want to download. I selected everything. Wait for the packages to download and install.

(Set the Path)

Next you need to update the PATH for tools/ and platform-tools/ folder. To do this you need to edit your ~/.bash_profile

(create it if you don’t already have one). Add the following two lines

export PATH=${PATH}:/Users/(username)/Desktop/android-sdk/tools
export PATH=${PATH}:/Users/(username)/Desktop/android-sdk/platform-tools

(Download Fastboot)

Now go to http://developer.htc.com/adp.html to the middle of the page and download Fastboot binary for OSX. Unzip it and place it in /tools/

(Now your all ready to use ADB and Fastboot)

If you want to check if your fastboot works and is set up correctly:

All you have to do is start your terminal and type /Users/(username)/Desktop/android-sdk/tools

This is what it looks like in my Terminal:

admins-macbook:~ admin$ /Users/admin/Desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools

This is what pops up when I hit ENTER:

-bash: /Users/admin/Desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools: is a directory

Now to check and see if it detects your device that is in fastboot mode:

With the terminal window still open type /Users/admin/desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools/fastboot-mac devices

This is what it looks like in my terminal:

admins-macbook:~ admin$ /Users/admin/Desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools/fastboot-mac devices

This is what pops up when I hit ENTER:

acs007maco11 fastboot-mac (Which means it has detected your device)

(Flash Away My Flashaholics)

I recently flashed a new unofficial recovery for my HTC EVO View Tablet based off of TeamWins Recovery. It has been redesigned and ported over by a gentleman that goes by the name of lovethyEVO.

This is what I typed in my terminal:

/Users/admin/Desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools/fastboot flash recovery /Users/admin/Desktop/android-sdk-mac_x86/tools/express-twrp1.0.3.img

(Last But Not Least)

Please don’t forget to step over to http://androidtricks.net/ and thank these guys!”
