Verizon Adding GSM Roaming to 4 Androids via Software Update

Remember a few weeks ago when hackers unlocked GSM frequencies on some Verizon Motorola Androids? Well it’s official, Verizon will soon release a software update that unlocks GSM roaming on four select Android devices giving them true world phone functionality.

They are the RAZR, RAZR MAXX, Droid 4, and HTC Rezound. Hackers had already found the frequencies on the Droid 4 and RAZR, and of course the MAXX has the same radio.

This is good news for you globe trotting Verizon droid lovers. Finally some Verizon Droid roaming abroad! Verizon touts the upgrade as unlocking calling and SMS in over 220 countries, and Data connectivity in over 205 countries. Not bad for a simple software unlock! This also means that the 4G LTE SIM cards are compatible with GSM SIM cards, and can be swapped for such upon landing in a supported country.
